About the Workshop

Libraries have been using different Information products like Online databases,e-journals, CD ROM based products, Library automation software, Digital Libraries,Online catalogues, etc. for various services. It is the duty of the Library professionals to train their users on the use of such products having varying functionalities and interfaces, for the effective utilization of these resources, which requires time and efforts from the Library and information professionals. Shortage of adequate manpower in some of the libraries calls for a facility wherein the users can learn about different products and services by the help of online Interactive Tutorials at their own pace. Provision of Interactive Tutorials, enhances the usage of such information products, which might have procured by spending huge amount.

Many institutions organize training on different tools for information services including Digital Library development tools like GenISISWeb, Dspace, Greenstone, Eprint, Library automation software like KOHA, NewGenLib etc. Such training events can also be supplemented with an online, self instructional material with step by step instruction, e.g. an installation guide to Dspace or Cataloguing module of KOHA etc. Such self-instructional materials can be reused by the learner for better understanding of the concerned process/procedure.

This workshop aims to provide a practical exposure on the application of ‘Wink’ a free software for creating different interactive self-learning modules/tutorials for various requirements, including that of information products.

User's Comments on Wink

"A wonderful tool to produce visual tutorials for free."
- Maria R Malmierca

"I have been helping a client produce some screencasts recently. We trialled a number of products first to see which suited them best One of the ones I really like is Wink, which is a great little free tool. I shall be using more of it" - Jane Hart

"Great tool for creating screen captures and demonstrations." - Robert Chapman

"WINK has empowered Linux gurus to show others how to use and install software, edit config files and setup network connections with a one time presentation. In our opinion, this is far more efficient than sending people to support forums where they will likely find themselves receiving about half of the "how-to" they really need. Beginners learn by seeing and then doing, not just reading about it." -Matt Hartley
