New Video
Following Videos are recently added to the 'Mu-Dil' Multimedia Digital Library Videos can be accessed from IIITMK LAN.
Abstract
Discusses about the basics of modeling for analytical chemist and chemical engineers – which is a part of newly emerging subject Environmental Modeling. It gives a clear picture about how chemistry is related to nature, also discusses mathematics’ relation with all matter and application of mathematical principles in forecasting or predicting the natural hazards/calamities. This session also discusses the relevance and quality of Mathematical models, advantages of modeling by digital simulation, defines chemical process, etc. This video also demonstrates application of a digital simulation software.
2. First Open Access Day Meet: Trivandrum Science City Concept by Dr.MS Gopinathan
Abstract
Discusses briefly about open access publishing, lists some of the leading open access journals in science, and difference between paid and open access journals. Discussed the concept of Trivandrum Science City as it is implemented in Chennai, it's need, coverage and procedure to set this concept etc. Also discusses about the importance of interaction between like minded people having different background to materialised such an initiative.
3. Examining the Colorful Wings of the Mysterious Butterflies of the Soul - a Numerical Exercise
Speaker :Asha Gopinathan, Neuroscientist
Abstract
Discuss about Dendrites, which are extensions of neurons. It gives a brief introduction to dendrites- their function, relevance and recordings, and then looks at how voltage changes in dendrites can be modeled. Lastly, It describes a technique she developed in collaboration with one of her colleague in IISc, Bangalore that can model the spatiotemporal change in voltage with better spatial resolution. It ends with a few results and some discussion about future directions in the work.
